Bački Breg is a smaller border crossing between Serbia and Hungary near Sombor, open 24 hours, for passenger vehicles and light vans up to 3.5 tonnes (sources differ on whether buses are also permitted); heavier freight is not yet handled here. The Hungarian side of the crossing is Hercegszántó. An EU-funded upgrade is planned that would add proper freight capacity, which would let it take some of the truck traffic currently squeezed through Horgoš and Kelebija further east. Along with Đala, Bajmok and Bački Vinogradi, it is one of the smaller Sombor–Subotica-area crossings that Serbian and Hungarian authorities open up or extend the hours of during the summer tourist season specifically to spread out passenger traffic away from the two main crossings. Small as it is, this is still a full external EU and Schengen border — Hungary has belonged to Schengen since 2007 — so even travelers with EU passports go through the same document checks as at the bigger crossings. There is no camera at this crossing.
