Gostun is the main and busiest border crossing between Serbia and Montenegro, near Prijepolje, opposite Dobrakovo on the Montenegrin side. It operates 24 hours a day and takes both passenger and freight vehicles, unlike nearby Jabuka, which is passenger-only and carries a much smaller share of the traffic. On the Montenegrin side, the road continues as a main highway through Bijelo Polje toward Podgorica, making Gostun the primary entry point for all traffic heading deeper into Montenegro — freight transport and summer beachgoers alike. That's exactly why the longest queues on the whole Serbia–Montenegro border form here during the summer season, holidays and weekends, especially heading south. Traffic is noticeably lighter on weekday mornings or late at night. Drivers who want to avoid the crush at Gostun and are traveling by car only have the option of nearby Jabuka, a quieter, though freight-unusable, detour toward Pljevlja.
