Jabuka is a border crossing between Serbia and Montenegro near Prijepolje, on the road that runs directly toward Pljevlja. The Montenegrin side of the crossing is Ranča. It operates 24 hours a day, but for passenger vehicles only — trucks and heavier freight vehicles cannot use it and have to go through nearby Gostun instead, which is also the main and busiest crossing between Serbia and Montenegro overall. That makes Jabuka a quieter alternative in practice: drivers heading by car toward Pljevlja, Žabljak, or on to the coast can skip some of the summer congestion at Gostun, an option freight traffic simply doesn't have. Prijepolje, on the Serbian side, sits on the Lim river and is also on the road toward Nova Varoš and Bijelo Polje, making it a junction for several routes into Montenegro — Jabuka is just one of them, and the one reserved strictly for passenger traffic. As at the other Montenegro-bound crossings, the heaviest queues come during the summer season, holidays and weekends, when the direction toward the coast is especially loaded.
