Hum is a border crossing between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro on the M-18 highway, on the Tara river between Foča and Nikšić. The Montenegrin side of the crossing is Šćepan Polje. The crossing sits in the middle of the Tara canyon, close to several rafting camps that operate along the Foča–Nikšić stretch — one lies just a few kilometres from the border, so the crossing also serves as an approach route to rafting put-in points from spring through autumn. Montenegrin authorities are preparing to build a joint border crossing at the Šćepan Polje–Paklice site, following the model of the already-opened joint crossings at Vraćenovići/Deleuša and Zupci/Sitnica, which would replace the current system of separate checks. Construction is tied to the building of a new bridge over the Tara and its access roads, so its timing is linked to that work. Until then, travelers at Hum go through separate border and customs checks on the Bosnian and Montenegrin sides, as at most other crossings between the two countries.
