About the crossing

Zupci is a border crossing between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, on the Trebinje–Herceg Novi road. The Montenegrin side of the crossing is Sitnica. It opened as a joint border crossing on 4 April 2025 — the second such crossing between the two countries, after Vraćenovići/Deleuša in 2020. Construction cost 1.8 million convertible marks. Instead of duplicate checks on both sides of the border, passenger control is now carried out at a single location, cutting crossing times. Around 1.3 million people pass through Zupci/Sitnica each year. The crossing links Trebinje with Herceg Novi and the Montenegrin coast, so it is used by both local residents and tourists traveling from eastern Herzegovina toward the Bay of Kotor. Under the same single-stop model, the Klobuk/Ilino Brdo and Hum/Šćepan Polje crossings are also planned, meaning Zupci/Sitnica is meant to be a preview of how all four Bosnia–Montenegro border crossings will eventually work.
