Kelebija is a border crossing between Serbia and Hungary, an alternative to Horgoš. It sits just outside Subotica, and the Hungarian side of the crossing is the town of Tompa. The crossing operates 24 hours a day and, like Horgoš 1, takes both passenger cars and freight vehicles — it is one of only two road crossings on this border that trucks can use, so together with Horgoš it carries essentially all the freight traffic between Serbia and Hungary at this end of the border. The smaller crossings further west (Bački Vinogradi, Bajmok, Đala, Bački Breg) are passenger-only, so any truck that cannot get through Horgoš has nowhere else to go but Kelebija. Trucks and passenger cars alike go through the full external EU border check here, since Hungary has been in the Schengen Area since 2007 while Serbia is outside both the EU and Schengen — for freight that means customs formalities too, not just a passport check. Tompa itself is a small town in Hungary's Bács-Kiskun county, right on the border.
