About the crossing

The Novi Most bridge between Mali Zvornik and Karakaj, over the Drina, has just been through a major reconstruction — the bridge dates from the 1970s and had never had a thorough overhaul until now. Around 550 million dinars was invested in the work, and starting December 10, 2024, trucks over five tonnes were barred from the bridge entirely for the duration; freight traffic was rerouted to the Ljubovija–Bratunac, Badovinci–Pavlović Bridge and Sremska Rača crossings, while buses were sent via Trbušnica–Šepak. Once the work was finished, the bridge reopened at full capacity, now safer and with better load-bearing capacity than before, with new protective railings added along the pedestrian walkways. The crossing is back to carrying serious freight volume — up to around 650 trucks a day, meaning on average a truck crosses roughly every other minute. It operates 24 hours a day and connects Loznica and northwestern Serbia with Zvornik and the eastern part of Republika Srpska.
