Šid is a border crossing between Serbia and Croatia, an alternative to Batrovci, opposite Tovarnik. Unlike Batrovci, it is not on the motorway — it follows the older road route between the two towns — and it operates 24 hours a day for all vehicle categories, including trucks. There is also a parallel rail border crossing here, on the Belgrade–Zagreb railway line, with the same round-the-clock hours. Because it takes the older, slower road rather than the E70 motorway, Šid tends to see lighter traffic than Batrovci and is a reasonable fallback when the motorway crossing backs up, especially for drivers already routed through the town of Šid itself. As with the rest of the Serbia–Croatia border, this is a full external Schengen border since Croatia joined the Schengen Area in January 2023, with document checks for everyone, EU citizens included. The town of Šid itself is known as the hometown of painter Sava Šumanović, whose gallery is one of the reasons travelers detour through the town rather than sticking to the motorway, and Tovarnik on the Croatian side has a railway station on the same Belgrade–Zagreb line, a short ride from Vinkovci.
