About the crossing

Kamensko is a border crossing between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, important for the Livno and Tomislavgrad area as well as central Dalmatia. The settlement on both sides of the border shares the same name, Kamensko — the Bosnian side lies in Canton 10 (Herzeg-Bosnia Canton), the Croatian side in Split-Dalmatia County. The crossing sits high in the hilly hinterland, on a road that continues on the Bosnian side as the M-16 highway and on the Croatian side as state road D220, and it forms the shortest link between western Herzegovina and the interior of central Dalmatia, without needing a detour via the coast. Since Croatia joined the Schengen Area in January 2023, this is a full external Schengen border, with document checks for everyone crossing, since Bosnia and Herzegovina belongs to neither the EU nor Schengen. For people from Livno and Tomislavgrad, Kamensko is the usual choice for shopping trips, work, or heading to the coast around Sinj and Split, rather than the longer route via other crossings further south or north along the border.
