Maljevac is a border crossing near Velika Kladuša, at the far northwestern edge of Una-Sana Canton in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, right on the border with Croatia. Velika Kladuša itself, with around 40,000 residents, is one of the larger municipalities in the canton. On the Bosnian side, the crossing runs along magistral road M-4.2 through the town, continuing at the border as Croatian state road D216 toward Vojnić, in Karlovac County. It's one of the lesser-known crossings in the northwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but for residents of Velika Kladuša and the surrounding area it's the shortest route into Croatia, on toward Karlovac and Zagreb. As with the rest of the Bosnia and Herzegovina–Croatia border, since Croatia joined the Schengen Area in January 2023 this has been a full external Schengen border — documents are checked on every crossing, regardless of the traveler's nationality.
