Ivanica is a border crossing between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia on the Trebinje–Dubrovnik road, in the Ravno municipality. The Croatian side of the crossing is Brgat. The modernized facility on the Bosnian side, covering about 5,000 m² with four lanes — two for entry and two for exit — plus a dedicated section for freight vehicles, opened on 29 August 2017. It was built to supplement the main Trebinje–Dubrovnik crossing at Brgat, which that summer saw queues of up to three hours on weekends. Ivanica takes both passenger and freight traffic, including agricultural exports from Bosnia and Herzegovina into Croatia. Since Croatia joined the Schengen Area in January 2023, this is a full external Schengen border on the Croatian side — passport and customs checks apply to everyone entering the EU, including EU citizens, since Bosnia and Herzegovina is outside both the EU and Schengen. For travelers heading from Trebinje to Dubrovnik, Ivanica remains a less congested alternative to the main Brgat crossing, especially in summer when queues regularly build up on the main route.
