About the crossing

Klobuk is a border crossing between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, on the Trebinje–Nikšić road. The Montenegrin side of the crossing is Ilino Brdo. In March 2020, when Montenegro temporarily closed all its other crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina because of the coronavirus, Klobuk/Ilino Brdo was the only one left open — and only for freight traffic, under special precautionary measures. In recent years, Bosnian authorities have been reconstructing this crossing so that it can follow the model of the already-opened joint crossings at Vraćenovići/Deleuša (2020) and Zupci/Sitnica (2025), introducing a single-stop system with both countries' border and customs staff at one location instead of duplicate checks. Until then, travelers at Klobuk still go through separate checks on the Bosnian and Montenegrin sides. The crossing links Trebinje, a larger town in eastern Herzegovina, with Nikšić, Montenegro's second-largest city, and is used regularly by residents and travelers moving between the two regions.
